The fact is that in 2009 when Kuffuor handed over power to Mills our total debt was $10 billion ( that was total debt from Nkrumah to Kuffuor), then in 2012 when Mills died he had borrowed $4 billion making our debt stock $14 billion. Then Mahama from 2012 to 2016 borrowed $29 billion making our total debt stock $43 billion. So in 2016 Ghana's total debt was $43 billion. Then today as we stand, Ghana's total debt stock is $52 billion, makeing Akuffo-Addo in 7 years has added $9 billion. Now if NDC under Mahama alone borrowed $29 billion in 4 years or under Mills and Mahama borrowed $33 billion out of the total debt of $52 billion, it means Mahama alone borrowed over half the amount in just 4 years, so latest ask ourselves, was he able to give Ghana half the development we have in that four years? Can Mahama say he has contributed to half the development we have in Ghana today?
If he borrowed that much and today we are in crises , is he not the major contributor of our woes? The records are there. The two finance ministers under Mills and Mahama are still alive, if they like they should come out for an open debate to tell Ghanaians if it's not true. NPP had been silent on all these things and theyre being blamed for the woes of the country.

Dear Lawyer, it's not for nothing that economics is known as an imprecise science. The popular Latin maxim, "ceteris paribus", to wit "all things being equal" remains central to all discussions in and on economics. It is unfortunate that the Cedi has deteriorated this far but, fortunately, there are very cogent explanations for what this economy has endured since 2019/20, and you know it. An economy is managed as best as can be and by tweaking it with foreseeable protective measures here and there. COVID was an unforseen and too devastating a phenomenon to even advanced economies. Dr Bawumia and the EMT have done a good job so far with efforts to rein-in what was clearly threatening to be a runaway situation. They did not run from the challenge. That is the mark of knowledgeable professionalism.

If you resort to over-borrowing for consumption on the assumption that it will stimulate demand and ultimately boost production, the cost of front loading your commitments which will lead you to IMF with its attendant harsh conditionalities is your choice and shows a failed policy option. If you introduce E-levy on the assumption that demand for the service is inelastic, but it turned out to be the reverse and the policy fails, do you blame ceteris paribus? And if you accept an IMF conditionalities which imposes on you to charge 15% VAT on electricity and organize labour pick up arms against your government, do you blame it on an Economics lecturer who thought you that the subject is a social science because human behavior is unpredictable? As a leader you are judged based on the choices you make. Even Chris Houghton is a casualty of circumstances beyond his control.
