Denteh endorsed as NPP Parliamentary candidate for Nkwanta-South

Nkwanta, Nov 1, GNA- The 96 delegates constituting the Nkwanta-South Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by popular acclamation on Wednesday endorsed Mr. Joseph Booker Denteh, Nkwanta District Chief Executive as its Parliamentary candidate for the 2008 elections.

The meeting, which attracted top party functionaries and a cross-section of people from all walks of life including some chiefs and elders of the area, burst into jubilation amidst drumming and dancing after the declaration by Mr. Dogbey Selormey, Nkwanta District Electoral Officer.

In a remark, Mr. Peter Mac Manu, National Chairman of the NPP reiterated government's pursuance of its policies of property owning democracy and development in freedom, by championing equal access and opportunities to everyone.

Mr Manu reassured the people that government would not renege on it rural development programmes until all deprived areas get the necessary requirements of life such as potable water, roads, health, education, infrastructure and electricity.

He said the party's seats in parliament rose to 128 in 2004 from the previous 98 in 2000 and 61 in 1996, and that his expectation is to grab 140 seats in next year's parliamentary elections.

Mr Joseph Kwaku Nayan, Deputy Volta Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Nkwanta-North urged the party's supporters to remain united and forge a common front to prosecute the upcoming elections with zeal and vim to deliver the seat.

He appealed to the party's rank and file to disregard the rumour-monger's and gear their efforts towards the re-capturing of the seat for the party.

Mr. Nayan commended government for creating the Nkwanta-North district from the Nkwanta district saying it would double the fortunes of development in the area.

Mr. Denteh, in a remark thanked the teeming supporters for the trust reposed in him and urged them to work hard and "explain government policies and programmes to the people to enable the party to win more of the floating voters".
