Avoid negative campaigning for CPP positions -Nduom

Half Assini (W/R), Nov. 1, GNA - Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, a presidential aspirant of the Convention People's Party (CPP), on Wednesday said the party was being revived and strengthened to enable it serve as a valuable alternative to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

"The CPP is on its way back with renewed energy and fighting spirit", he said at separate meetings with constituency delegates of the party at Half Assini, Tarkwa and Essikado during a two-day tour of the Western Region.

Dr Nduom said many Ghanaians were looking up to the CPP as the alternative to the NDC and the NPP and the CPP would not let them down. "They are saying all over the country that they have tried the NDC, they are still trying the NPP and they want something different from what the other parties offered".

"It is now time for the CPP to come back and work its magic in the country once again", Dr Nduom said.

Dr Nduom appealed to all contestants for national executive positions and those seeking to be elected as the party's presidential candidate to avoid negative campaigning. He said candidates for positions must show by their character, message and actions th at they belonged to one family and are not factional leaders.

He said the candidates must work together now and after the party's national congress next month to prove to Ghanaians that the CPP was capable of uniting the country.

Dr Nduom alleged that some party members were going about shouting all over the country that they wanted an independent party and ''are sneaking day and night consulting with the party's opponents on how to win positions in the CPP.''

"We know who are going to some very high level officials in both the NPP and the NDC and are taking money to undermine CPP candidates". He said this was not new and that many of them got vehicles, money and materials from the same sources for the 2000 and 2004 elections. Dr Nduom said, "They should stop the noise and join the bandwagon of the new CPP for the benefit of all of us.'' 01 Nov 07
