Ex-DCE files nomination for primaries

Sunyani (B/A), July 12, GNA- Mr. Mohammed Kwaku Doku, former Brong-Ahafo regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress on Tuesday filed his nomination papers to contest the party's Parliamentary primaries in the Asunafo North constituency in the 2008 general election.

In a statement made available to the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Mr. Doku entreated the constituency delegates "to exhibit neutrality and maturity" in the primaries.

"If political leadership is about development, progress, growth and caring for the people, and if these qualities comprise the yardstick by which political leaders should be assessed, then it would be an understatement to say that the current political leadership in the constituency has woefully failed the people of Asunafo North", he stressed.

Mr. Doku, a former Asunafo District Chief Executive, noted with regret that since the NPP assumed office in 2001, NDC faithful and sympathizers who challenged its mal-administration had been "subjected to persistent intimidation, job losses, insults and vulgar language". "All we witness in the constituency today are empty talk shows, greed, selfishness and unparalleled fraudulent and corrupt activities in the body politic of the constituency, since there is no one to question the powers that be or hold them accountable", he added.

Mr. Doku charged his colleague contestants to resolve to support any person who would be elected in the primaries to ensure a resounding victory for the party.
