A majority of NPP Members of Parliament have declared their support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's bid to become the party's 2028 flagbearer, praising his leadership, loyalty, and transformative record in government.

Out of 87 NPP MPs on the minority side, 63 have reaffirmed their support for Dr Bawumia's flagbearership bid ahead of the NPP's upcoming presidential primaries.

"We declare our total and unwavering support for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next flagbearer of our great Party. We have seen his work, his discipline, resilience and his readiness to serve. We believe that Dr Bawumia embodies the next chapter of the NPP's vision, a future built on competence, innovation, unity and hope," the group said at a press conference in parliament on Thursday, October 24, 2025.

In a collective statement, the lawmakers described him as the embodiment of the NPP's enduring spirit, a visionary, resilient, and pragmatic leader.

"Dr Bawumia represents the enduring spirit of our Party, visionary, resilient, diligent and pragmatic. From his days as a brilliant economist at the Bank of Ghana to his remarkable stewardship as Vice President, he has proven that leadership is not about words, but work; not about entitlement, but excellence and delivery," the statement read.

The MPs highlighted Dr Bawumia's central role in Ghana's digital transformation agenda, noting his leadership in spearheading reforms that have modernised public services and enhanced transparency in governance.

They explained that, under his watch as Vice President, initiatives such as the digital addressing system, the Ghana Card integration, the paperless port system and the mobile money interoperability platform were rolled out, all aimed at improving efficiency and accountability across government institutions.

They credited Dr Bawumia with driving financial inclusion and promoting a modernised, technology-driven economy that benefits both businesses and ordinary citizens.

According to the MPs, his leadership has "brought clarity to governance, inspired innovation and built systems that work."

The legislators also praised Dr Bawumia's long-standing loyalty and service to the NPP, describing him as a leader who "respects the party's history yet reimagines its future."

"He has walked with the NPP through every season of victory and trial, serving faithfully, defending our record, and carrying our message with conviction and grace.

The MPs also appealed to party delegates nationwide to rally behind Dr Bawumia in the primaries, describing him as "the leader who can win the confidence of the Ghanaian people and secure victory for the NPP in 2028 and beyond."

"To our cherished delegates across the country, this is our moment to make history once again. Let us reward loyalty, humility and hard work with trust. Let us renew the NPP tradition with a leader who represents continuity with innovation. Let us choose the man who has walked the path, carried the burden and delivered results," the statement urged.
