President John Dramani Mahama has affirmed that the 24-Hour Economy policy has evolved from a campaign slogan into a comprehensive strategy aimed at transforming Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at the official launch of the initiative on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the president said while the policy represents hope and possibility for Ghanaians, the true challenge lies with how the policy will impact livelihoods.
“We have moved from slogan to strategy today. In 2024, the idea of a 24-Hour Economy captured national attention. It became a slogan of hope, a symbol that change was necessary and that it was possible.
“Our task now is to ensure that the necessary change is with the implementation. This launch is not the end, but it is the beginning of a massive national mobilisation,” he noted.
President Mahama explained that the policy is a holistic economic model designed to maximise productivity and unlock opportunities across sectors.
“Let me be clear here, the 24H+ Agenda is not just about extending working hours. It is about unleashing productivity, expanding opportunities, [and] accelerating export through well-structured and inclusive interventions,” President Mahama explained.
The 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, also referred to as "24H+," is a flagship initiative of the Mahama-led administration.
It seeks to re-engineer Ghana’s productivity framework by extending economic activity beyond traditional working hours and integrating key sectors into a seamless, efficient value chain.
The transformative programme comes with a projected cost of $4 billion.
The government is committing between $300 million and $400 million as seed capital to cover viability gaps and attract private sector investments.
