Akwatia By-Election: Watch as EC distributes ballot boxes, polling booths to centres
According to GhanaWeb reporters present at the scene covering the by-election at Akwatia, a misunderstanding broke out between members of the two major political parties at one of the polling stations where voting was underway.
Details of what may have triggered the incident remain unclear.
However, in a video footage exclusively obtained by GhanaWeb, several unidentified individuals could be seen shouting at the top of their voices and hurling insults at each other in the local dialect.
Although the police attempted to de-escalate the situation, the visibly agitated individuals appeared unwilling to cooperate.
It took the intervention of the two NPP leaders: Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, to calm tempers and break up what seemed to be a tense standoff between the two factions.
