National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has reacted to the decision by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect its flagbearer before organising internal elections for grassroots and national executives.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on June 20, 2025, Asiedu Nketiah likened the decision of the NPP to a person deciding to put up the roof of a structure first, before constructing the actual building.
“To get to the top of a tree, you climb from the bottom. If you are on top of a tree and you see someone fixing the roof of a structure first before building the structure itself, won’t you ask for him (sic) to be examined?
“Have you seen someone asking for sheets to roof a structure before s/he even builds the structure?” he asked in the Twi dialect.
Asiedu Nketiah asserted that the NPP’s decision shows that it has not learnt anything from the past.
He said that the NPP boycotted the 1992 parliamentary election because they had lost the presidential election, which was held first.
He noted that the same NPP that fought for the parliamentary and presidential elections to be held on the same day are today going in a different direction.
