The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has rejected claims that the executive branch influences his actions or Parliament's operations.

Addressing remarks by Asante-Akim Central Member of Parliament on Thursday, November 13, 2025, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi, during a debate on the Appointments Committee's report on Chief Justice nominee Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, stressed that no executive authority can dictate his conduct or decisions.

"The statement you just made is a very serious statement. As I sit here, there’s no executive that can control me," he noted.

Anyimadu-Antwi had alleged that the executive was exerting undue influence over both the legislature and judiciary, citing this as a reason for the Minority's walkout during the vetting of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie.

He further argued that ongoing court cases challenging the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo made it inappropriate for Parliament to proceed with the vetting, claiming the executive was attempting to "control Parliament and Ghana."
