Savelugu MCE shouldn’t step down – Lecturer

Municipal Chief Executive of Savleugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu Municipal Chief Executive of Savleugu, Hajia Ayishetu Seidu

Hajia Ayishetu Seidu, the Municipal Chief Executive of Savleugu, should ignore the pressure on her by some irate youth of the municipality to resign, Dr Ahmed Jinapor, a senior lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, has said.

According to him, a strong statement must be sent to the youth that they cannot resort to violence to get rid of persons appointed to serve the nation.

The youth of the NPP are against the MCE’s nomination because they claim she’s not a party member. Heavy security personnel have remained in the area following the disturbances by the youth that resulted in a clash with the police on Thursday, 15 June 2017.

The police fired warning shots to disperse the youth that massed up in front of the district assembly office to prevent the MCE from assessing her office.

Commenting on this matter on TV3’s New Day on Saturday June 17, Dr Jinapor said: “I am happy about the tenacity of the woman, Hajia, and I will tell her not to relinquish that position. I have heard people say that she should step aside, but I will say she should not.

“Why will she step aside? She should not. This stampede must stop. This will be a statement to the youth that recalcitrance must not be tolerated.

“…I think people who misbehave must be brought to book, it should not be allowed. But Hajia Ayishetu Seidu must stand her ground, she must do her work unless the President says she should vacate.”
