Political parties bribe voters to register

Officials of some political parties in Ghana are reportedly bribing some prospective voters to participate in the limited registration exercise which kicks off today.

Some prospective voters have told Starr News at Tema that some officials of some political parties have been enticing them with Gh¢50 to go and register.

“They have been here. They gave us Gh¢50 each to go and register to vote for them,” a prospective voter corroborated others.

Over the next 11 days the Electoral Commission will capture details of about 1.2 million people who have turned 18 or never registered during the last registration exercise and want to have their names on the electoral roll to vote.

Officials of the parties have been compelled to move into the constituencies at the last minute to entice prospective voters following revelations that many of them would not participate in it.

The political parties have, however, denied bribing the prospective voters.

The limited registration opens at 8am and closes at 5pm. It will end May 8, 2016.
