Read statement below:

ELIGIBLE GHANAIANS MUST REGISTER NOW

As the Electoral Commission of Ghana begins registration of eligible voters from tomorrow 28th April – 8th May 2016, we want to encourage all eligible Ghanaians to go and register.

We want to remind all Ghanaians that Article 42 of the 1992 Constitution states that, “Every citizen of Ghana of eighteen years of age or above and of sound mind has the right to vote and is entitled to be registered as a voter for the purposes of public elections and referenda”. It is therefore imperative that eligible people take advantage of this opportunity and register.

We urge all parents to encourage their children who are 18 years and above and have not registered to register.

We are convinced that the decision to register and vote can save Ghana from the corruption and mismanagement which has plunged this country into severe economic downturn. Your vote is your power which can save thousands of Youth from unemployment.

All members of the Progressive People’s Party must spread the word and encourage more eligible voters to register, to make sure their right of citizenship is exercised. It is important for all Progressives to be ambassadors of this important exercise.

We also want to use this medium to sound a word of caution to all ineligible people such as minors and foreigners to stay away from this exercise.

The Law enforcement agencies must deal mercilessly with all offenders whose motive is to jeopardize the peace and tranquillity of this nation.
