The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, Michael Okyere Baafi, is calling on New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates to fully back former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the party’s upcoming flagbearer election slated for January 31, 2026.
In a December 1, 2025, report by adomonline.com, Okyere Baafi underscored the weight of the upcoming primary, describing it as one of the most consequential internal polls in the party’s recent history.
He said the NPP needs a candidate who is already known, trusted, and positioned to lead the party’s comeback attempt in the 2028 general election.

“This 31 January election is not a joke. It is crucial, and we need an experienced person. We need someone who has been well-marketed and is well known by Ghanaians. That person is Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
Reflecting on Dr Bawumia’s contributions, Okyere Baafi highlighted his loyalty and resilience during difficult periods for the party.
He said that out of the five aspirants: Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, Dr Bawumia remains the most competitive, visible, and widely accepted choice.
Okyere Baafi also appealed to grassroots members to play an active role in strengthening the party’s fortunes.
He emphasised that polling station executives must work collectively if the NPP is to mount a serious challenge in the 2028 polls.

“Politics is local, so the responsibility lies with all of us at the polling station level. It is a collective effort. Let us come together and work hard for the NPP to reclaim power. And the only person who can help us win easily is the experienced and well-marketed Dr Bawumia,” he said.
The MP expressed confidence that a united front behind Dr Bawumia would give the NPP the momentum it needs to return to power in 2028.
