A presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has resorted to seeking divine intervention ahead of the party's presidential primaries.

A short video circulating on social media shows Dr Adutwum surrounded by men in cassocks offering prayers.

In another video on his official X page, Dr Adutwum confirmed that the prayers were part of a deliberate effort to seek divine intervention in his bid to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections as flagbearer.

Before the prayers, Dr Adutwum interacted with the congregation, stating, “We cannot sit idle and allow poverty to overshadow us. We have to wage war against poverty and overcome it.”

He added, “I am here to inform you that I wish to contest as the flagbearer of the NPP, with Ghana’s transformation as my agenda.”

During the prayer session, Dr Adutwum sat with his eyes closed and hands folded, nodding in agreement to the prophetic words being spoken over him.

The atmosphere was set with a powerful worship song, “Sumsum Kronkron Bra” (“Come, Holy Spirit”) by Elder Mireku.

After the prayers, Dr Adutwum shared on his official X page that he felt spiritually uplifted by the clergymen’s prayers.

“I felt spiritually uplifted when some clergymen in the Ashanti Region invited me to share with them why I had resolved to contest for the flagbearership position in the NPP,” he declared.

The former Education Minister has officially declared his intention to contest the upcoming NPP presidential primary, scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Other potential hopefuls include Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
