NPP exhibiting ‘intolerance’ – Pratt

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is demonstrating a certain level of intolerance according to the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr.

According to him, if truly the NPP claim to be a democratic party, the party should have the stomach to accommodate everybody.

He made this comment following claims that the NPP ‘warned’ media houses not to discuss issues raised by Baah Acheamfour, convener of a group known as Save NPP Now at a press conference.

Baah Acheamfour, at the press conference on Monday, May 16, 2016, accused Nana Akufo-Addo, flagbearer of the NPP, of being the cause of the party’s dwindling electoral fortunes.

He further asked that Nana Addo resigns as flagbearer of the party.

However damaging his assertions and accusations might be, the NPP and its communicators have refused to comment on issues he (Baah Acheamfour) raised.

There were speculations on social media that the opposition party would have preferred a media blackout on Baah Acheamfour and his allegations.

Speaking to the issue during a panel discussion on Radio Gold, Kwesi Pratt said “you cannot be a democrat if you don’t accept the principle of the equality of citizenship. Whether we like it or not, Baah Acheamfour is a certified member of the NPP…and if he has grievances, why can he not air those grievances? Why should he not be given a hearing simply because he is Baah Acheamfour….by extension, this is also a demonstration of a certain level of intolerance… and I am deeply worried by this development.”
