The Ashanti Regional Communications director of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Paul Yandoh, has raised concerns about what he described as the National Democratic Congress's quest to win more seats in parliament after securing an overwhelming majority.
According to Paul Yandoh, the NDC has set in motion what he suspects to be an effective "election machine" that could easily enable the party to win even the Bantama parliamentary seat should it become vacant.
The Bantama constituency is regarded as one of the "World Banks" for the NPP. It has remained one of the significant constituencies in the Ashanti Region due to its ability to produce massive votes for the party in every election.
For instance, during the 2024 general elections, Francis Asenso-Boakye polled 47,275 out of the total of 55,546 valid votes cast, representing 85.11%. His contender from the NDC, Solomon Addai Dapaah, secured a paltry 8,023 votes, representing 14.44%.
However, Yandoh believes that with the current wave blowing around the NDC, the party can easily win if a by-election is held in the constituency now.
NDC's Ewurabena Aubynn wins Ablekuma North parliamentary seat
Speaking on Wontumi TV, he said, "What at all does the NDC need to do with the numerous parliamentary seats that the party is fighting for? What's the party going to do with it?"
NDC’s Bernard Baidoo wins Akwatia by-election
He questioned, "If the NDC wants to sack all of us to move to Pluto or Saturn with the huge number of parliamentarians, they should let us understand. NDC currently does not care about dialogue or anything else because all they need is a seat in parliament. If something were to happen at Bantama right now, the NDC would take the seat away. What at all do you need?"
He insisted that if the NDC needs a lot of parliamentary seats despite its supermajority, "they should let us understand so that we will know that a supreme leader has come."
The NDC's recent by-election wins, including the Ablekuma North constituency seat and the Akwatia constituency, where they overturned a 2,000-vote deficit to win by over 3,000 votes during a by-election held on September 2, 2025, seem to have bolstered Yando's concerns.
The party now has a supermajority in parliament with an overwhelming 185 seats.
