Mampong NPP petitions against the nomination of Appiah Kubi

Mampong (Ash), 19, GNA - The Asante Mampong Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party has sent a petition to the President protesting against the possible nomination of Mr. Appiah Kubi as the Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

The petitioned signed by the Constituency Chairman, Oheneba Kwasi Duwaah, stated that the move was to ensure that the President's nomination was acceptable by the majority in the constituency. The petition said Mr. Appiah Kubi was suspended in September 2002 as Constituency Secretary over an alleged gross misconduct and administrative irregularities.

It alleged that after his suspension he became disgruntled and led a group to disrupt a workshop organized by the Electoral Commission for agents of political parties towards Election 2004. The petition said Mr Appiah Kubi was part of a group that sent the party to court from September 2005 to late 2007 on the election of Polling Station Executives.

It said his appointment as MCE would break the party's front rather than uniting it and appealed against his possible nomination. When contacted by the Ghana News Agency on the allegations, Mr Appiah Kubi said, "I will not comment, since it is the prerogative of the President either to nominate me or not."
