With the New Patriotic Party (NPP) January 31, 2026 primary approaching, Global InfoAnalytics has released a survey reflecting the views of party faithful on the upcoming polls.
Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who led the party in the 2024 election, is seeking to be retained as the flagbearer for the 2028 election.
He faces competition from four other aspirants: Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Osei Yaw Adutwum, Dr Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.
Bawumia in a clear lead - Global Info Analytics polls suggest
However, the latest survey released on November 25, 2025, indicates that a majority of NPP delegates believe giving a candidate a second opportunity to contest the presidency could enhance the party’s chances of winning.
"In what could be a welcome development for the former vice president, majority of NPP delegates believe that giving a candidate a second chance at the ballot could enhance the party’s chances in the next election," the survey found.
The poll shows that 59% of delegates agree with the assertion that giving a candidate a second chance could improve the party’s chances of winning the 2028 election, while 14% disagree, and 27% remain neutral.
NPP Primaries: Bawumia stretches lead, projected to win 15 out of 16 regions in new poll
The survey also noted that "majority of delegates in all the regions except Volta Region agree with this assertion."
In the main national polls, Dr Bawumia reportedly holds a commanding lead in 14 out of 16 regions, with Volta and Central Regions showing a tie.
The view of the majority of NPP delegates aligns with the historical practice of both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of retaining defeated presidential candidates until they eventually win.
The NPP, for instance, presented John Agyekum Kufuor twice in 1996 and 2000 before he won, and Nana Akufo-Addo three times in 2008, 2012, and 2016 before being elected president.
Similarly, the NDC presented the late John Evans Atta Mills three times in 2000, 2004, and 2008 before his victory. After losing the 2012 election as sitting president, John Dramani Mahama was presented again for the 2020 and 2024 elections, eventually securing victory in 2024.
