A former Member of Parliament for Odododiodio, Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding the campaign by Ningo-Prampram MP, Samuel Nartey George, to address DStv subscription charges in Ghana.
Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Friday, October 3, 2025, Vanderpuye said that although the legislator’s approach may not have been entirely appropriate, his intentions were rooted in protecting the Ghanaian consumer.
“We may fault him for the approach, but the intentions are good,” Vanderpuye indicated, noting that George’s interventions highlight the genuine frustrations many subscribers face over what they consider excessive fees.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye emphasised that while methods of advocacy may attract criticism, it was important not to lose sight of the broader message.
According to him, Sam George’s position should be seen as a call for fairness in the pay-TV industry, rather than a personal attack on service providers.
Vanderpuye also stressed the need for constructive engagements between Parliament, regulatory authorities, and service providers to find a lasting solution to subscription pricing.
He argued that such collaboration would help balance the interests of consumers and businesses.
Vanderpuye, however, said the conversation should not be about personalities but about the legitimate concerns of Ghanaians.
