The Minority in Parliament has called for the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George.

This demand is as a result of a seemingly controversial negotiation between the Ministry and MultiChoice Africa, the parent company of the popular satellite television service, DStv.

Addressing the press, in a video shared by TV3 on October 2, 2025, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Communications and Information Committee, Charles Asuako Owiredu, stated that the actions of the minister violate the code of conduct provided by President John Dramani Mahama for all his appointees.

The Minority further argued that the minister’s approach, ranging from demands for a reduction in DStv’s prices to the imposition of daily fines, which they described as 'arbitrary', poses a serious threat to the integrity and stability of the country’s communications industry.

“By adopting an arbitrary decision-making posture, the minister is also denying regulators such as the NCA the opportunity to perform their work according to law, which clearly threatens the growth of this sensitive industry. His actions also signal a breach of the president's code of conduct that requires candor and respect to all persons,” Owiredu said.

Outlining the Minority’s demands, Owiredu called for an apology from Sam George for what it described as a ‘waste of the nation's time and resources on this venture’.

He additionally called for a comprehensive report and breakdown of the fines imposed on DStv for failing to comply with the Ministry’s directive.

“For this display of ineptitude, incompetence, and penchant for deceit, we, of the minority, demand that; the minister render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the waste of the nation's time and resources on this venture.

“We call on him to account for the fines levied on DSTV. We deem him unfit to continue as the minister for this strategic ministry of Communication, Digital technology, and Innovation, and therefore call on him to resign, or for, Your Excellency, the President, to fire him,” he demanded.
