Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed his joy with the NDC losing the 2016 General Elections saying the party wouldn’t have been able to please Ghanaians if they had won.

According to him, the NPP made such huge promises to Ghanaians that people would have compared his administration's progress to the promises made by the NPP.

“If we had won the 2016 elections, I think people would never have been pleased with anything we did because our competitors made very enticing promises, so people would have judged us by those promises.”

The former president who was speaking to party members in the Sefwi-Akontombra constituency as part of his campaign ahead of the NDC primaries to elect a flagbearer noted that after experiencing hardship under the NPP, he believes Ghanaians now appreciate his administration.

Mr Mahama added that instead of priding itself with the implementation of the Free SHS policy, the NPP government should focus on bettering the lives of Ghanaians.

He said “education is important but there are other areas such as healthcare and agriculture. If you help someone to succeed in life, he can pay for his child’s school fees…”

As part of his Western Regional tour, the former president also met party members in the Bodi, Prestea and Sefwi-Amenfi constituencies.
