President John Dramani Mahama will lead a solemn wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the African Burial Ground National Monument, paying tribute to the memory of enslaved Africans.

The event forms part of a series of activities highlighting reparatory justice.

In his role as African Union Champion for Reparations, President Mahama will spotlight the importance of recognising the transatlantic slave trade and the racialised chattel enslavement of Africans as crimes against humanity, a position already endorsed by the African Union.
