EC replaces card with wrong date of birth

Acting Director of Public Affairs, Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annoh Acting Director of Public Affairs, Electoral Commission, Sylvia Annoh

The Electoral Commission has replaced the card of an applicant which was printed with a wrong date of birth.

A picture of the card bearing the name of one Abubakari Osumanu which was shared on social media had his date of birth as January 1, 1702 suggesting the bearer was over 300 years of age.

But the Electoral Commission, in a statement signed by its Acting Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, said the card which was traced to a polling station in Tamale had been replaced.

“… our Regional Director has confirmed that the problem was a typo. The card has since been corrected and re-issued to the applicant,” the statement reads.

The Commission further assured that it had put internal mechanisms in place “to address issues as and when they arise. We are determined that, the voter’s experience at our registration centre is pleasant.”
