Former Vice President and aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has made a strong case for delegates of the party to maintain him as flagbearer, stressing that he is the most prepared candidate to lead the party in the 2028 elections.

He made this remark in a post shared on his X page on Friday, September 12, 2025, following an engagement with constituency executives in the Ashanti Regional Capital ahead of a nationwide campaign in the build-up to the party’s flagbearer contest.

“Day 2 of my Zonal Constituency Executives Engagement in Ashanti Region was an opportunity to reignite the spirit of the Party at the grassroots, especially in the heartbeat of the NPP.

“I continued to share my vision for the Party and Ghana to emphasise the reasons why I am the most prepared, formidable and winnable candidate for the NPP in the 2028 elections,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated race to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections has officially commenced.

The party’s Presidential Elections Committee confirmed on Thursday, August 28, 2025, that all aspirants who picked up nomination forms have successfully submitted their completed documents, setting the stage for a competitive internal election.

The nomination process was officially launched on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, by the General Secretary acting on behalf of the National Council.

In a press release signed by the Committee’s Secretary, William Yamoah, the party assured of its commitment to a fair and transparent process.

“The Committee assures all stakeholders of its commitment to a transparent, credible, and fair process, guided by the Party’s Constitution and Regulations, to ensure the integrity of the process,” the statement read.

The party is now gearing up for a decisive Presidential Primary, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

This primary will determine who becomes the NPP’s flagbearer and presumptive presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.
