Akuffo-Addo calls for support to win congress

Asamankese, Nov. 16, GNA - Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, a presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has met the party's executives and polling station chairmen of eight constituencies in the Eastern Region at Asamankese.

The constituencies are Akyem Swedru, Kade, Akwatia, Lower and Upper West Akyem, Nsawam, Akyem Oda and Ofoase-Ayirebi. He asked for their support for his bid to be elected the presidential candidate of the party for Election 2008. The aspirant once again refuted allegations that he was a proud and an unapproachable person and said he was only a "small and simple man" who would not tolerate dictatorship and therefore stood up vigorously when Ghana needed to be saved from the suppression and oppression of a tyrant.

He wondered why during those difficult days he was seen as bold and courageous only to be branded now as a proud man who could disturb the peace of the nation by his actions if elected president. Nana Akuffo-Addo said as Foreign Minister, he helped to bring peace in a number of African countries and as President of Ghana he would not do anything that could disturb the peace of the nation. He told delegates to the December 22 congress to look at the message of each aspirant, the quality of the leader and his organizational ability.

"The right man for the job should be the one who can unite the party and inspire the people, a true party man who had made sacrifices to make the party what it is today". "If you want a true NPP man to succeed President Kufuor, I am the man." he said.

Nana Akuffo-Addo said no one had offered more loyal and dedicated service to the party and nation than himself, a well-known and marketable candidate who could ensure that the NPP retained power in 2008.

He called himself a bold and courageous strategist and a winner, ready to humbly serve the party and nation as leader and asked delegates to give him a "one-touch victory" at the up- coming congress. Nana Akuffo-Addo called on all aspirants to rally behind the one to be elected to form a formidable team to ensure overwhelming and absolute victory in 2008.
