About 100 supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region have defected to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

They stated that President John Dramani Mahama cannot effectively manage the affairs of the country.

According to the NDC supporters, they decided to join the NPP due to the harsh economic conditions in the country under the leadership of President Mahama.

They disclosed this at Moree on Tuesday when some executives of NPP held a meeting with them.

The spokesperson for the group, Frank Baidoo observed that President Mahama started to fail the same day the Supreme Court ruled in his favour.

Mr Baidoo said they thought that President Mahama was going to perform creditably and urged Ghanaians to vote against him in the upcoming elections.

They wondered why President Mahama was not given a second team as ECOWAS Chairman just like former presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufour who performed excellently.

They further said the propaganda of the NDC had failed to put food on their table.

“We are fed up with the economic crisis facing the country, the high cost of electricity and water bills and living. We have to join the calls of the majority of Ghanaians who are calling for a change of government,” they added.

The spokesperson also criticized government for failing to ban pair trawling because of the involvement of some government officials which had led to the collapse of the fishing industry.

He called on NPP to safeguard the country’s fishing sector and the livelihood of the fisher folks to help reduce poverty among people in the coastal areas when voted into power in the 2016 general elections.

He reiterated their commitment to work hard in the area to enable NPP win the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Central Regional Secretary of NPP, Kwamena Duncan hinted that the current Mahama administration has made life unbearable for Ghanaians.

Mr. Duncan indicated that the country’s economy was deteriorating because of the mismanagement of the NDC government.
