I put it to all and sundry that the God of Israel abhors such practices(libation and animal sacrifices, as well).
The word 'libation' appears in a number of times in the scriptures, particularly in the book of NUMBERS.
Animal sacrifice and libation (or drink offering) constituted a prescribed ceremonial or religious
preparations as ordered by God and HIS covenant people.
The Levites or the priestly class among the Jews were those entrusted with such responsibilities.
As is often the case nations imitated some of these formulas in their religious practices. Satan always counterfeits God, and that is why in almost every other religious practices there is animal sacrifice which we know from Scriptures that God has no partnership in such practices(1st Corinth 10.20).
The Samaritans of today carry out such practices even though geographically they are not distant from where the Knowledge of God through Christ came from(John 4).
In the setting up of the peace offering, for instance, certain elements or ingredients were needed or mentioned. And they included wine, bread, bowl, lamb etc. Infact, the entire formula and ordinances were a symbolic representation of what Christ was coming to accomplish on behalf of humanity.
Hence, all those ordinances were a shadow of the reality, and the reality is Christ(see the book of Hebrews)
During the Old Testament times, some Kings, eg King Uzziah, out of disobedience arrogated to himself the roles of the priest and the anger of God blinded and paralysed him until his death.
Some Jewish Kings were pouring libation in public and calling upon the names of gods, as was being done in Judah. God, through the Prophet Jeremiah, warned the diaspora Jews of the consequences(Jeremiah 44).
The NT warns us that God forgave the nations of their ignorance, but now knowledge has come which is not hidden.
Ladies and gentlemen, Christ came to furfill the Scriptures. The bread and the wine aforementioned in the previous paragraphs, as ingredients in the peace offering formula, were all a symbolic representation of Christ as the Lamb of God and HE being the bread of life. Infact, the breaking of bread (his body, symbolically) and the drinking of wine (his blood, symbolically) which HE instituted and commanded us to observe
indeed forms an integral part of true Worship of God.
It is important that we do all things in respect of the Lord, for Christ answers all things.
My humble prayers goes on behalf of these beautiful ladies of ours who are clad in white and are yet to come to the knowledge of the TRUTH.
Some of these typical African traditional practices feature in other west African countries that have permeated some parts of Haiti, Brazil, the Dominican republic, New Orleans etc.
The conclusion of the matter is God has made a covenant with humanity, through the shed blood of his Son.
The Prophet Isaiah prophesied that it pleased God that HIS son dies, so that we become adopted children of God.
The Prophet Daniel gave a vivid account of the death of Christ which will put an end to sacrifices.
Do not look at man or do not let friends hinder you from coming to the knowledge of the TRUTH, for you came a lone and you are destined to depart alone, but make sure you are in Christ.
Remember your baptism.
