According to statistics, the rate at which men are getting infected and dying from the novel Coronavirus is higher than that of women.

Medical Practitioner and Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Isaac Newman Arthur, has shared some logical reasons why men seem to be contracting the Coronavirus more.

In an interview with host, Nana Yaw Odame on season 3 of eTV Ghana’s Men’s Lounge, he shared that firstly, men are likely not to follow precautionary measures but women are more likely to do so.

“Generally, we would dismiss a lot of things so for instance, you hardly find a woman dying from road accident when she’s in charge because women are likely to follow all the rules but men are likely not to”, he explained.

Dr. Newman continued by saying that looking at health status, men may come with all kinds of chronic diseases which may be higher than in women, hence they are likely to suffer a lot of COVID-19 related issues.

Again, he said, “Generally, if you look at most of the people who are likely to go out to fight and do stuff, there’s more likelihood of it being the man so their risk of exposure goes up”.

The medical practitioner commented that a lot of research is going on, hence the main reason why men are more prone to contracting the virus will surely be revealed.

He concluded with a little advice, saying, “Covid-19 has come and it is likely to stay longer than expected because healthy people are the ones who are carrying it around unlike Ebola which had people almost dying”.

“Hence, I’d like to encourage people to continue with all the precautionary measures we’ve started. A certain persistence and continuity of a certain intervention is likely to help deal with the situation better”, he furthered.
