Over 347,000 children immunized against poliomyelitis in Kumasi

Kumasi, Dec. 5, GNA - About 347,566 children were immunised within the Kumasi Metropolis during the third round of the National Immunisation Day (NID) against poliomyelitis from November 9 to 13 this year.

The figure exceeded the 332,369 children targeted for the exercise, representing a 104.6 per cent. Dr Joseph Oduro, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Health Services, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Monday.

He said with the Vitamin 'A' supplementations about 315,834 children out of the targeted 299,132 children were given the dose representing 105.6 per cent.

Dr Oduro attributed the success of the exercise to the hard work of the volunteers, health personnel and adequate publicity given to the programme.

He extended gratitude and appreciation to those who assisted to ensure success of the exercise.

The Metropolitan Director of Health reminded mothers of the fourth round of the exercise scheduled for December 7 to 11 and urged them to patronize the exercise to help eradicate poliomyelitis in the country.
