Ghana has recorded new Coronavirus cases Ghana has recorded new Coronavirus cases

Nana Appiah Pennin Dacosta, the Omankrado of Assin Akonfodi in the Assin North District of the Central Region on Friday presented quantities of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the Akonfodi Polyclinic to combat the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The equipment, valued at GH¢100,000.00 include hand gloves, facemasks, sanitizers, protective clothing and veronica buckets.

His intervention was geared towards contributing his quota to the national call to stem the devastated COVID-19 pandemic that had claimed several lives around the world.

It was to protect patients, visitors and efficiently support health officials at the facility to effectively discharge their mandated duties should they record a case in the area.

He pledged to continually support the facility with the needed logistics and urged all to adhere to safety and precautionary measures to stem the spread of the disease.

Mr George Opoku Asomadu, the District Director of Health who received the items was grateful to the traditional leader for his kindness.

He advised all persons who exhibited symptoms of the devastating COVID-19 to as a matter of urgency reach-out to the nearest health facility or call the national centre for immediate assistance.

He explained that the virus is transmitted through direct contact with respiratory droplets of an infected person (generated through coughing and sneezing), and touching surfaces contaminated with the virus.

According to him, symptoms can include fever, cough and shortness of breath and in more severe cases, infection could cause pneumonia or breathing difficulties. More rarely, the disease can be fatal.

These symptoms are similar to the flu (influenza) or the common cold, which are a lot more common than COVID-19 that is why testing is required to confirm it.

To avoid the risk of infection, he further urged the public to wash hands frequently using soap and running water or an alcohol-based hand rub, cover mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue, when coughing or sneezing, and throw away the tissue into a closed bin.

Avoid close contact with anyone who has cold or flu-like symptoms and visit the nearest hospital if you have a fever, cough or feel that it is difficult to breathe.
