The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Office of the Food and Drugs Authority has provided the Sunyani Regional Hospital’s (SRH’s) blood bank with 152 pints of blood.

As part of its corporate social responsibility, the FDA collected the pints of blood at a blood donation exercise it organised at Wamahinso, near Ntotroso, a mining community in the newly- created Ahafo Region.

Students from the Gyamfi Kumanini Senior High School, staff of the FDA and individuals from the town, after going through thorough blood examination voluntarily donated blood to stock the blood bank to save lives.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ms Akua Amponsaa Owusu, the Acting Regional Head of the FDA, said the exercise was organised in collaboration with the Ghana National Blood Bank.

Dr Ganiwu Abdul, the Head of the SRH’s Blood Bank who led a team of medical practitioners to conduct the exercise, thanked the FDA and expressed the hope that other corporate institutions would emulate that.

He said the blood bank required more pints of blood to save accident victims and some pregnant women who lose a lot of blood during labour.
