The Institute of Charted Accountants Ghana (ICAG) has extended support towards the completion of a birthing centre at Mangotikope, near Kpetoe in the Agortime-Ziope District.

Togbui Gbor Moses, Chief of the community, who is also the midwife for the farming area is said to have delivered 100 babies in the past 30 years by visiting clients in their homes.

He told the GNA he used to move from house to house to deliver babies for clients and noted that when the facility was done, he could meet more clients at the Centre, which would also serve people from nearby communities.

Mr Kennedy Kormla Deh, Chairman of the Ho District Society of the ICAG, who presented roofing materials worth GHC6,500.00 for the project, said the Institute was moved by news reports highlighting the plight of the community, hence the assistance.

He also presented a cheque for GHC5,000.00 donated by the national society towards the project, with the assurance of further aid.

The Centre has a delivery room, office, recovery room, with sanitary facilities.

The project was initiated by Dr Divine Novieto, a lecturer at the Ho Technical University with support of some other individuals.

Dr. Novieto told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that the project, estimated at GHC200,000.00 would be ready by June 2019, adding that the District Assembly had promised to support the Centre with health staff upon completion.

He said the place would also serve as a family planning centre and appealed for more support.
