Rotary Ghana to provide free health screening for 50,000 Ghanaians

The Rotary Club, Ghana, has launched its family Health Days to provide and sensitize 50,000 Ghanaians on the need for healthy living as well as provide free health services to the underserved in the community.

The event which took place at the Osu Presbyterian Church Hall was under theme, “Healthy Families, Healthy Communities.”

In his welcome address, Past District Governor of Rotary Ghana, Adotei Brown described the event as “one of the many occasions on which Rotarians roll up their sleeves, volunteer and work alongside health workers.”

According to him, immense success can be achieved if the right leadership and drive, collaboration and harnessing of resources are provided, something Rotary is focused on doing.

The three-day event (Family Health Days) will include HIV Testing and TB Screening, Diabetes and Blood Pressure Screening, Polio and Measles Vaccination, Vitamin A supplementation as well as condom distribution. Screenings will take place in 8 regions simultaneously between the hours of 9am-5pm each day.

He charged all Rotarians not to exempt themselves during the Family Health Days in Ghana, Togo and Benin as February, 23, 2018 marks the 113th anniversary of the group.



Commenting on their contribution to society, Mr. Brown added that Rotarians undertake projects in the community under six areas of focus namely peace and conflict prevention and resolution, maternity and child health, water and sanitation, disease prevention and treatment, economic and community development and basic education and literacy.

In her keynote address, the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo commended the efforts of Rotary Ghana to the contribution of health care delivery to Ghanaians.



The Family Health Days is scheduled from February, 20 to February 24, 2018 with screening exercises taking place in areas like Accra, Tema, Koforidua, Ho, Hohoe, Cape Coast, Apam, Swedru, Winneba, Kumasi, Sekondi-Takoradi, Sunyani, Berekum, Techiman, Tamale and Tarkwa.

In the Greater Accra specifically, screenings will take place at Aplaku, Dome Kwabenya, Teiman, Adjiringanor, Frafraha, Adobeto, Teshie Maami, Teshie Camp two, Mallam Atta Market, Sowutuom Muslim community, Bukom, James Town Police Station Court yard, Osu Super, Sahara, Dodowa to mention a few.
