KATH Mother and Baby Unit: I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished – First Lady

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) will soon boast of a new Mother and Baby Unit as Construction work on the facility is near completion.

The project, an initiative of the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, which started five months ago, is 95 per cent complete and ready for inauguration by end of January 2018.

Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, through the Rebecca Foundation mobilised GHC10 million for work on the facility to commence.

The First Lady posted pictures of the facility on her Facebook timeline and expressed delight at the progress made.

She believes the facility will help avert the needless deaths that were recorded at the KATH.

“I am truly proud of what we have accomplished. The Multimedia Group highlighted on the tragedies at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. A problem of lack of space resulting in needless deaths,” she wrote.

She commended individuals and groups who supported the project and disclosed that “we have been able to build a modern new facility in 5 record months. Each baby will have its own cot because we now have a capacity for 130 babies and 11 children.”
