No Doctor stationed at Kukuom Abromamu in Brong Ahafo Region- Ing Mensah

Assembly Member for Kukuom Abromamu in the Asunafo South district in the Brong Ahafo region Ing Kobby Amoah Mensah has bemoaned the lack of medical doctors stationed in the area to offer treatment to patients.

He complained that patients have to resort to health facilities in the neigbouring towns when in critical conditions.

Ing Amoah Mensah disclosed that lots of lives have been lost due to lack of doctors and a hospital in the area.

Speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, he further complained that all efforts to have authorities post medical doctors to the district have proved futile.

He revealed that he organises free health screening for over 100,000 indigenes whenever the need arises.

Ing Amoah Mensah said there hasn’t been major support from any organisation or government adding that letters sent to corporate organisations have also gone unanswered.

A worried Assembly Member explained that its financially difficult to organise free medicals in rural areas such as theirs.

‘…If you are human, you need to do something to solve the plight of people, … In organising free health screening, most of the monies have been from myself, I take money form my own pocket, from friends and my friends, its as simple as that… Its very difficult organising free health screening in the country side or rural part pf the country. In that we moved so many pharmaceuticals to the area,’ he said.

Touching on the state of healthcare delivery in the area, he pointed out, ‘…I am just going to say it as it is, for a community of 100,000 people minimum, as per my research from the Ghana Statistical Service data as of 2010, indicates that the population is 95,580 inhabitants and there is not a single doctor and I repeat there is not a single full time doctor for the people of Asunafo south district. You would assume that the population would have gone up by now, we don’t have a district hospital at Kukuom which is a district capital, there is no government hospital in this area’.

He said the town can only boost of a health center saying they only have community nurses who attend to patients.

According to him, an agreement to have doctors visiting the area one-twice every week has failed as they are yet to receive doctors asking if they deserve to get part time doctors.

‘Its left for the commitment of authorities to push for doctors, myself and community members have been pushing for doctors for a very long time, …it appears like the people are being punished by authorities, our doctor to patient ratio is zero,’ he bemoaned.

He called on government, churches and organisations to help the community get doctors.

‘We are pleading with the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to quickly send doctors to the area,’ he appealed.
