The Executive Director of the UNAIDS, Michael Sidibe is urging the government of Ghana to double up efforts aimed at eradicating HIV/AIDs in Ghana.

The Under Secretary General of the United Nations says his outfit has set the year 2030 as the target year to eliminate HIV/AIDS from the surface of the earth and Ghana certainly has a pivotal role to play in the achievement of this agenda.

Michael Sidibe further underscored that 25% of the health burden of the world is in the African continent, sadly though he says, only 3% of the medicine consumed by the world is produced on the African continent.

He therefore pressed on the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to map up a strategy with Ghana’s private sector to take full advantage of the huge market potential that this production vacuum provides for Ghana as a country.

EIB’s Wilberforce Asare reported that the President welcomed the suggestion of the Under Secretary general of the UN and says his government certainly will explore the Economic space that the pharmaceutical industry provides on the African continent.

He also congratulated Mr. Sidibe for all the serious interventions and programmes he is implementing to deal with HIV/AIDS.
