First Indian eye hospital starts operations in Ghana

In lieu with its vision to move quality eye care beyond the continents, Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital was first Indian Eye Hospital to launch its first state-of-the-art eye hospital in Accra (Ghana).

Minister of Health, Alexander Segbefia inaugurated the hospital in presence of Prof. Dr. Amar Agarwal and other invited guests.

Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Ghana spread across 14,000 Square feet, is a secondary eye care hospital equipped with state of the art facilities and latest technology aimed to provide complete eye care to a patient from general eye check up to complicated vitreo-retinal problems in a friendly environment.

The hospital aims to improve the accessibility and affordability of all individuals for quality eye care along with Vitreo-retinal and Hi-tech Cataract treatment.

The advance and modern Ophthalmology practice in the hospital can be felt with the presence of hi tech investigational and diagnostic equipment meant for imaging and scanning purpose.

The equipment like AB Scan, Auto Perimeter, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA), Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) not only supports the Ophthalmologists with precise diagnosis and status of eye ailment but also helps in decision of appropriate treatment.

Some of the equipment like Autoperimeter is capable of analysing the progression of disease and vision damage if not treated on time.

Inaugurating the new hospital minister of Health Alexander Segbefia, said, “It gives me immense pleasure to inaugurate the first centre of Dr.Agarwal’s Eye Hospital in Accra (Ghana). With their expertise and international care, I am confident the new centre will provide world-class ophthalmic solutions to our people.

We are looking for many Indian Hospitals to come over with their manpower investment, technology and their hospital running experience to establish their setup and give treatment to our people“.

Dr. Asiwome Kwesi Seneadza, medical head, speaking on the occasion said that the preventable blindness poses a bigger threat to visual impairment incidence in the country and said “The advanced investigative methods and treatment modalities followed in the hospital are world class. These eye care services will not only help in saving the vision but also preventing further deterioration of vision in complicated cases. And help us in our fight against the preventable blindness.”

Dr.Agarwal’s Eye Hospital a comprehensive eye hospital offering a one-stop solution for eye ailments; was started in the year 1957. Now the hospital is in its 57th year of offering quality services in eye care. In November 2013, for the first time in the World, Dr.Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Chennai transplanted a one year old donor cornea giving a new lease of sight to a 60 year old man through the new technique PDEK (Pre Descemet’s Endothelial Keratoplasty).
