Sekyere Central cries for critical health professionals

The lack of critical health professionals including doctors is affecting the quality of health care delivery in the Sekyere Central District.

Mr. Ebenezer Akuoko-Frimpong, District Chief Executive (DCE), said the situation where there “is not a single medical doctor”, serving in the area was denying the sick access to proper care and treatment.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the district “has no hospital” and that the only facility, a polyclinic was being manned by medical health assistants.

The result is that patients are usually referred to the Mampong Government Hospital.

Mr. Akuoko-Frimpong said they found this deeply troubling, and that, the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service would have to act without delay and change things to bring relief to the people.

He said everything must be done to assure the population of improved health care services.

“The assembly had already taken steps to build a district hospital at Nsuta and land for the project was ready.”

The DCE said funding has been the major constraint holding back the construction of the facility.
