Non-governmental organisation screens the aged

Nana Kwa Adofrakye V, Omankrado of Gomoa Ajumako Akyempem Traditional Area, has appealed to the government to pass a bill that will cater for the need and welfare of all aged persons.

He said this when he chaired a socialization meeting of the aged at Gomoa Potsin where a free health screening exercise was carried out for the aged by health personnel lead by Mr. D. K. Aihoon, a Senior Nursing Officer.

The programme, under the theme “Brining Hope to the Aged,” was organized by Global Salvation Ministry Foundation, a non-governmental organization based in Kasoa that focuses on the welfare of the aged.

Nana Kwa Adofrakye said about 65 percent of the aged are farmers who had no social security, but had contributed to the growth of the economy in terms of food production.

The Rev. Peter Okyere, President of the Foundation, appealed to caretakers, family members and the entire society to desist from stigmatizing and discriminating against the aged.

Nana Tweikow Adasoa X, Odikro of Gomoa Potsin, commended the NGO for organizing such programme in his town and suggested that such programmes should be held periodically in the area to boost the morale of the aged in the town.
