Baware community clinic in need of electricity

Officials of Baware Community Clinic in the Akuapim North District have appealed to the government and NGOs to provide them with electricity and medical facilities.

Mr Philemon Asante, who is in charge of the Clinic, told the GNA in an interview that lack of facilities had led to complications and death of patients as the clinic was not able to attend to patients rushed to the place at night.

He said the clinic took care of cases such as antenatal, family planning and minor ailments with the help of two community nurses and one enrolled nurse.

Mr Asante said the dispensary had no shelves to display medicines and drugs are stored in the maternity ward.

He said for a clinic that is serving more 1,000 people in the Baware community, they lacked medical equipment and medical facilities that would enhance service delivery.

Mr Asante said last Thursday at about 0100 hours a patient was brought on at the back of a motor but the clinic had no light.

“Fortunately, the motor rider who brought the patient to the clinic was around so he switched on his headlight for me to do normal checks on the patient and transferred her to another clinic,” he said.

Mr Asante said the clinic has one borehole, three wards, one serving as maternity, a male and female ward.
