Boy,12, kick-starts campaign to raise 100,000 pints of blood for hospitals nationwide

Master Andrew Adansi Bonnah, 12-year-old initiator of the 'Save Somali Children from Hunger' Project will on Thursday 23rd of August 2012, launch a national blood donation exercise in Accra.

According to the young Ambassador, whose project caught attention in Africa and the world, his new project would afford regional and district hospitals across the country adequate blood supply all year round, to ensure emergency services are met timely.

A statement issued in Accra by Mr. Kobla Asamani, a member of the project team said accident victims, women in maternal care, anemic patients and surgery activities would be undertaken without any difficulty.

The statement noted that the young Ambassador was currently touring the Metropolitan City of Accra, to ensure that all was set for the takeoff of the national exercise.

“I pledge to bring a new era of hope to the Ghanaian people as I did for the children and people of Somalia,” Andrew said.

Andrew who recently attended the funeral of the late President Mills said the late President was willing to work with him to make this project a success, noting that “the late President Mills was very passionate about maternal care.”

The 12-year-old boy is being supported by the National Blood Bank, Ghana Health Service, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Defense, Regional and District Hospitals across Ghana, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Alias Hotel, the Country Awards Council of Ghana, Universal Hospitals Group and other media partners.

The first phase of the exercise is expected to take place across 45 center in Ghana within the next four (4) months.

He called on the media to give maximum publicity to this laudable initiative to enable the general public to come out in their numbers to donate a pint of blood each in order to save human lives.
