Eighty-Year -old retired Reverend Minister to embark on protest walk

Koforidua Oct. 19, GNA-Reverend Ohene Abednego, an 80-year-old retired clergyman of the Baptist Mission Association of Africa at Akyem Oda, has threatened to embark on a 144 kilometre walk from Akyem Oda to Accra on Wednesday if the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) would not call off their strike action.

He said he would then petition President John Evans Atta Mills to take any appropriate action against the Medical Doctors.

Reverend Abednego told the GNA in Koforidua that the strike action of the Medical Doctors were uncalled for considering the number of innocent people who would be dying following their action.

“Taking into considerations the fact that these medical doctors were trained at the expense of the tax payer, it would be unkind of them to look unconcern while precious lives are lost”.

He wondered if the Medical Doctors would bring back those who might have died from their actions after they finally got what they wanted.

Rev. Abednego suggested to the Government to consider training more Medical Doctors in the not too distant future so that the “bluff of Doctors would be a thing of the past”.

He indicated that if a tiny Island like Cuba could produce enough medical doctors and be able to export some of them, a bigger nation like Ghana could equally do the same if proper measures are put in place.

Rev Abednego also suggested to the Government to compel people who would go to the Medical Schools in future to pay their fees in full.

He noted that no professionals are more important than others adding, that it was about time, “We sacrifice to build a prosperous nation”.

Rev. Abednego wondered what would happen if conservancy labourers, policemen and other professionals decided to embark on strike actions to back their demands for higher remuneration.
