Five suspected breast cancer cases requiring further medical investigation have been identified following a community health screening exercise in La on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

The screening, organized by ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group as part of the October Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, screened more than 354 people and provided a range of general health checks alongside breast examinations.

Following the screening, the medical team identified five cases requiring further diagnosis. The organization indicated its commitment to following up on the cases and supporting treatment where necessary, subject to the outcome of further medical assessments.

As part of the initiative, Dr. Esther Yesutor Agbozo also educated residents on breast health, the importance of early detection, and how to conduct breast self-examinations to identify potential warning signs.

Sharing her observations after the exercise, Dr. Agbozo highlighted concerns about limited access to routine medical check-ups among residents.

“What we’ve realised is that the people of La, and this may apply to other communities in Accra, most of the people here do not go to the hospital. That is the feedback we are getting. Because most of them have come with high blood pressures, high blood sugars; some haven’t been to the hospital in a very long time. They don’t even know they have BP or diabetes. It’s really bad,” she said.

She emphasised the need for sustained community-based health initiatives, noting that many communities would benefit from similar interventions.

“This initiative by should continue because most communities need such initiatives,” she added.

The screening exercise underscores the importance of bringing healthcare services directly to communities, particularly in identifying potential health concerns early and encouraging people to seek appropriate medical attention.

Following the exercise in La, ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group is expected to extend the initiative to Kaneshie Market on Saturday, October 24, 2026, to make essential health screening services accessible to more Ghanaians.
