The government has procured medical equipment to strengthen Free Primary Healthcare Delivery in the country.

A statement issued by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, said President John Dramani Mahama would on April 15, launch the Free Primary Health Care Programme, a key campaign promise.

It said the Programme was designed to ensure universal healthcare for Ghanaians, including 35 per cent of the population who are not on the National Health Insurance Scheme.

Ofosu on Good Friday in the company of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, inspected 24,534 pieces of medical equipment to be distributed from next week to health facilities across the country to facilitate the rollout of the Free Primary Healthcare programme.

The equipment includes X-ray machines, Vital Sign Monitors for checking blood pressure, temperature, and Glucometers for measuring blood sugar levels for diabetes screening.

Others are baby incubators, radiant warmers, and oxygen concentrators for resuscitating newborns after delivery, patient monitors, infusion devices, laboratory analysers, delivery beds, hospital beds and ultrasound.
