The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, on July 18, 2025, received a donation of medical drugs from the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Ghana (PMAG) to support the Mahama Cares Initiative.
The donated items, valued at GH¢2.2 million, include pain relief medication, blood tonics, anti-malaria drugs, cardiovascular drugs, anti-diabetic medication, and asthma management drugs, among others.
Expressing appreciation on behalf of the Ministry, Akandoh described the donation as a critical boost to the Mahama Cares Initiative, which seeks to improve public health service delivery, particularly in underserved communities.
“This donation could not have come at a better time. It will significantly enhance our ability to provide quality healthcare to our citizens, especially in remote and vulnerable areas. I want to assure you that every single item will be used strictly for its intended purpose,” the minister affirmed.
He further commended local pharmaceutical manufacturers for their role in strengthening Ghana’s health system, especially amidst growing calls for self-reliance in drug production.
Speaking at the ceremony, Elder Tobbin Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, who represented PMAG, lauded the Mahama Cares Initiative for its timely intervention in bridging critical healthcare gaps across the country.
“In recognition of the noble efforts being made through Mahama Cares, we, as stakeholders in Ghana’s health sector, found it imperative to support this initiative with life-saving medical supplies. The initiative reflects a deep commitment to making healthcare accessible and affordable for all Ghanaians,” Elder Tobbin stated.
