The Achimota Hospital has seen a notable upgrade to its child and outpatient facilities following renovation works undertaken by Stand in The Gap Kindred International.
The initiative, aimed at improving hygiene and comfort for both patients and healthcare workers, was officially unveiled on Friday, April 4, 2024.
Renovation efforts focused on key areas of the hospital, including the Children’s Outpatient Department (OPD), the general OPD, and washrooms.
Roof repairs, fresh coats of paint, the installation of new plumbing fixtures, and the replacement of damaged doors were among the interventions carried out.
A perspex barrier was also added to reduce the risk of flooding in OPD areas during heavy rainfall.
Hospital Administrator Bernard Fiifi Polley described the improvements as timely, noting their impact on patient well-being.
“The general waiting area has received a facelift. It’s been nicely painted, and some roof leakages have been fixed. This is a very important activity, and we are not taking it lightly. Our clients are equally happy because a poor environment can affect one’s recovery.”
Sharon Amanda Quaye, a member of the Project Committee of Stand in the Gap Kindred International, speaking on behalf of the Stand in the Gap Kindred International, explained the motivation behind the project.
“We realized that when it rains, the OPD areas flood and become a hazard for patients. So, we did some roof repairs and installed barriers. We also renovated the washrooms and donated a polytank so that in times of water shortage, the hospital still has access to water,” she said.
In addition to the renovations, the organization donated a range of medical equipment and supplies to the Children’s Unit.
These included essentials such as a weighing scale, otoscope, stadiometer, and a television set.
Educational and recreational materials like books, toys, and play mats were also provided, alongside hygiene products such as antiseptics, baby wipes, diapers, and gallons of liquid soap.
Stand in the Gap Kindred International is a Christian, interdenominational NGO dedicated to serving both God and humanity.
Founded by Rev Vera Norman Addo, the organisation undertakes at least one impactful project annually to contribute positively to society.
