Assemblies urged to step-up flow of health information

Nsawam (E/R), Aug. 2, GNA - Mr Kenneth Osman, Co-ordinating Director for Akuapem South Municipal Assembly, has called on Assemblies to step-up the flow of information on health issues, especially on communicable diseases to their people. He said constant education on malaria for instance to community members on the need to use treated mosquito nets and keep their environments clean were very much necessary.

Speaking at a sensitization programme organized by the Akuapem South National Health Insurance scheme at Nsawam on Friday, Mr Osman urged assembly members to take advantage and be abreast with changes in the scheme's operations so as to make improvement in their communities. Mr Chris Pobi, the Scheme Manager said the programme was to sensitize members of the Assembly on the introduction of electro-magnetic identification card (ID) and the mode for premium payments. He said the new ID was being introduced because the Scheme has now been network nationwide for fast and easy operation.

Mr Pobi said currently the operation of the Scheme seemed to be slow because of the change over from the manual to computerised system but noted that it would better improve when fully completed. He said contributors can now access health facilities through out the country.
