Spinal Awareness Week launched in Accra

Accra, May 29, GNA - The 2009 Spinal Awareness Week was launched in Accra on Friday to provide free chiropractic care to Ghanaians and educate them about ways of strengthening their spines. The Spinal Awareness Week which was the first in West Africa offers Ghanaians the platform to learn about spinal health and to receive chiropractic care from 14 expatriate medical practitioners. Dr Bryan Cox, Founder of Chiropractic Around the World, a Ghanaian NGO, said this second awareness week was to provide free medical care to the communities.

This would include Spinal Awareness Golf Classic, two Straighten Up Ghana youth events and four days of free chiropractic care. He said they were using the various media channels to educate Ghanaians on how to live more spine friendly lives. "This way we can truly raise awareness throughout Ghana on such an important issue," he added.

Dr Cox advised Ghanaians to eat more fruits and vegetables, exercise and sleep properly, reduce sugar and medication intake, drink more alkaline water and stay away from physical, chemical and emotional stress because it might be fatal.

He urged the public to participate in the programme being sponsored by The Spinal Clinic and supported by Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Women and Children's Affairs. 29 May 09
