NOGAID donates medical equipment to the Tamale Teaching Hospital

Tamale, Aug. 18, GNA - The Northern Ghana Aid (NOGAID), an NGO operating in Tamale, has donated medical equipment valued at about GH¢ 3,000 to the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The donation was made possible through the efforts of Dr Emma Lees, a medical doctor who is on a 10-month working programme at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The programme is part of Doctors World Wide (DWW), a UK-based NGO and NOGAID partnership, which aimed at supporting northern Ghana with highly trained doctors from UK, USA and Canada. Some of the equipment, which included insulin syringes, sphygmomanometers and stethoscopes, blood pressure scuffs, emergency aspirators and pen torches, would be given to the University for Development Studies (UDS) Medical School. Presenting the equipment at the weekend Dr Lees expressed the hope that more doctors would come from UK to help hospitals in northern Ghana.

Mr. Mustapha Sanah, Executive Director of NOGAID, said his outfit would continue to seek funding to support health centres in the Northern Region to improve standards. Dr Ken Sagoe, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Tamale Teaching Hospital who received the equipment, commended NOGAID for augmenting the doctor staffing situation in the hospital and appealed for more doctors to solve the acute doctor shortage in the hospital. "Your effort is the beginning of better things to come. We would continue to welcome you with open hands to foster closer collaboration," he said. Dr Lees is accompanied by Dr Nathalie Davey also from the UK for a 10-month working visit to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
