90,000 Euro-Polyclinic inaugurated at Agona Mensakrom

Agona Mensakrom (C/R), Mar 4, GNA - Mr Ben Mensah, Agona District Chief Executive (DCE), on Saturday inaugurated a 90,000 Euro-Polyclinic constructed by Stiching Empower, a Non-governmental Organisation based in Holland, at Agona Mensakrom in the Central Region. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Mensah called on the people to register with the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme to enable them receive quality and affordable health care.

He regretted that some people had not registered since the scheme was introduced and urged them to put their political affiliation aside and embrace it.

The DCE assured the chiefs and the people that the District Assembly would provide water and electricity to the Polyclinic as promised during the sod cutting ceremony last year. The commissioning of the Polyclinic coincided with the installation of Mrs. Rullmann Schmidt of the NGO, as the Nkosuohemaa of Agona Mensaksrom under the stool name Nana Akusua Duoduwaa. She said the Polyclinic was constructed especially to ensure that pregnant women and children had access to improved nutrition to avoid infant mortality and Kwashiorkor.

Nana Duoduwaa said a centre had been created at the Polyclinic with facilities for seminars and workshops for the youth on HIV/AIDS, Sex education, breastfeeding and family planning to improve the quality health care.

She called on the people to take good care and maintain the facility to serve about 15 towns and villages around Mensakrom. Ms Angela Bolton, Agona District Director of Nursing Services, urged pregnant women to attend regular antenatal and post maternal clinic to reduce child mortality and Maternal cases in the area. She assured the chiefs and the people and Director of he NGO that the Health Directorate would post a Midwife to the Polyclinic and urged them to give her the maximum co-operation and support. Ms Bolton appealed to the mothers and pregnant women to understand the usefulness of referral cases, which would be made by the Midwife to the Swedru Government Hospital to avoid troubles. Nana Obiri Boa Krampa, chief of the town, expressed appreciation to Mrs Schmidt for the gesture and assured her that the people would maintain it. He appealed to other NGOs both in and outside the country for assistance to construct additional quarters for nurses who would be posted there since accommodation had already been provided for the Midwife. 04 Mar 07
